Dear Founder Members of Jazz Café
Wow, it feels like a long time since I wrote last and to quote a song Dinah Washington won a Grammy way back in 1959 for: “What a difference a day makes”. In my case I will use artistic license to change one word to read; “What a difference a ‘Month’ makes”.
The month of August started with a kiss. I said “I do” and accepted a single gold wedding band to wear on my left hand. Andrew and I married at the Kelowna Riding Club on August 1st at 2pm in front of 130 amazing friends and family. Neville, Bernie, Craig then Curtis Parry, Cameron and Martin Lord continued the music and I even had two special Chilean friends, Miguel & Marco, that I knew from Shanghai come and play and jam…music filled the night and I sat in awe, sparkling at the thought that this was my party! (Ok, ‘our’ party! ha-ha)
A few days recovering (and honey-mooning) then back to reality, well not exactly…I got myself on a plane and flew to New York City (“concrete jungle where dreams are made of”) to attend a 5 day master class at the New York Jazz Academy that I was accepted to attend. During my time there I also was invited to perform at a Private Members Club NORWOOD – that was great! ‘Cause I also performed with some cats I met in Shanghai Henry and James. We got great feedback and I cannot wait to take Bernie and the band next time…..soon!
I just got home in time for Neville, Bernie and I to perform at a midnight candle-lit special event for Anthony Von Mandl of Mission Hill – it was spectacular! I feel so blessed to be able to make people happy by doing what makes me happy.
The whole Jazz Café line-up are performing at the Vancouver Cellar on Thursday August 26th so Please, if you have friends in Vancouver that you would like to introduce our music to this is their opportunity to come and enjoy a great night out. 1.604.738.1959 – 3611 West B’way. Only $15
I will be starting up Jazz Café in October again for another 6 month membership run but need to finalize with Black Box the dates and also organize a crew of volunteers to help me so please watch this space and if you are interested in becoming a member or volunteer do reply. Ticket prices at the door will be going up to $25 but for founder members who would like to continue the 6 month run the price will remain $20 per show + $5 office fee. (More details to follow)
