NOVEMBER 2010 JAZZ CAFÉ NEWSLETTER
As time runs towards the chill of December, this amazing weather we still feel has me dreaming that summer is coming soon, not going away… Until I become conscious that I’m putting together a newsletter for November…November! Have I been having that much fun that time is flying by this fast? Well, to make a speedy segue to my point, I know for sure that fun is what’s going to happen on November 16th Jazz Café. Our Special Guest will be the fascinating and fabulous Larry Crawford. He will be bringing to the stage a few of his friends, The Sax, the Clarinet, and the Jazz Flute. I am pleased to have another opportunity to perform with one of the Okanagan’s revered musicians of Jazz. Oh, and pop in your LUSH LIFE CD check out some great riffs on Nature Boy & Sprinkle of Hope. That’s Larry Crawford…Now, come and hear it live on Nov. 16th. Members please do let me know ASAP how many guests you are bringing so I can reserve tickets and suitable table arrangements.
October‘s ‘Jazz Bursary’ lottery raised $202.00 – that’s amazing. Thank you for buying tickets. We always have good prizes that are worth at least $25.00. Jazz Café is raising money to help young musicians further their career in Jazz music.
Ricardo’s gigs Nov 4th & 18th. Live music Thursdays at Ricardo’s. Jazz Café Trio (Neville, Bernie & Anna) are performing these two dates in November. Come and eat great food, get $5. Off any bottle of wine and listen to some great jazz.
Skookhum Barn Dance Nov. 6th. http://skookumbarndance.org Tickets are $25.00 a bargain. You know it’s time to let your hair down loose and have some fun. Kamp it up a little and get out of your ‘norm’ and just enjoy the great atmosphere. The Jazz Café Trio Featuring Anna Jacyszyn on Vocals, Bernie Addington on Double Bass & Craig Thomson on Saxophone will be on stage first to warm you up… and that we promise to do! Supporting the ever sexy fun Johnny Ferreira and the Swing Machine.
I have been asked to perform with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra: Concert Season which I am elated about. What a fabulous opportunity to perform with a classical orchestra. Please come and bring your family – It’s such a lovely programme.

Let me know if you agree. There are so many on the list that I have not listened to but its fun going on iTunes to have a little listen, then a download… I’m acquiring a nice collection of great music this way. This month I am listening to: “An Audience with Betty Carter” released in 1980 on her own label (which was licensed to Verve) solely funded by herself. As I listen to it over again, I am drawn into the skill of her vocabulary and her sense of ease while the musicians throw me into a land of dream catching and inspiration.
I’m going to do this more often, rather than watch soul destroying reality programming on TV, I’m going to lie on my couch and fill my soul with illustrious melodies caressing my shell-likes. Nice!
Enjoy.
