JANUARY 2012 JAZZ CAFE NEWSLETTER

Quoting from the poet Robert Burns – ‘We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for Auld Lang Syne’.  On behalf of myself and my fabulous team at Jazz Café, we raise our teacups and wish you all a Happy Hogmanay and New Year for 2012, your love and support will not be forgot.

I guess I’ll be leaving the holiday week behind in a fog of disoriented bliss… overindulged with Food, Family, and Re-runs! …Let me invite you to enter into the Orient and celebrate the year of the Water Dragon.  This month’s Jazz Café lies on January 22nd the day before the start of a 15 day celebration and of the year of the Water Dragon. I would like to gently theme Jan 22nd Jazz Café a Chinese New Year Celebration.

As a 3-4 year resident in China, mainly Shanghai, I have grown accustomed to the traditions of this wonderful celebration. Chinese New Year and the year of the Water Dragon is marked by excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity, cooled with the calm of water to the fiery dragon. The celebration is generally seen as an amazing way to forgive people of grudges & sincerely wish happiness and peace, and reconcile…. topped off with loads of fireworks that do not stop day and night for 15 days!!!!! And ends up driving me crazy because of the constant noise, mess, sulfery-smokey thick air lingering and drying my throat!  But everyone is so happy … YaY!  “Gong he xin xi” (Happy New Year). Months to come at Jazz Café

On March 23rd we are proud to introduce to Jazz Café a wonderful band of musicians called MIMOSA (more details to come).  Our very own Jazz Café band will be taking a well-deserved break and they will be back on April 23rd for our last in the series and all members who would like to attend this extra April date pay $15.00 only (guests and non-members still pay regular fare).

We have also started plans for Season 5 of Jazz Café and on May 18th the Dylan Cramer Quartet will be on stage at Jazz Café with Anna Jacyszyn (ME) as guest vocalist!  I just have to confirm with KCT that the season can remain at the Black BOx on the 18th of every month.  More news to come on that!
